A Musical History

I just thought I'd talk about my "musical history" today, because I am not really of the "music makes you Goth" side of "what makes a Goth" argument. So here we go
10-younger: I just listened to whatever was on the radio, whatever my dad played in the car, whatever I was given as a present; it was all the same to me.
11: I started getting into music more and listened to Pink! and Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson.
12: I hit that My Chemical Romance/Black Veiled Brides/Avril Lavigne phase-this was when I was first becoming a Goth-I look back on these times and I squirm with embarassment
13: I heard The White Stripes and I was hooked. I started listening to way better music like They Might be Giants, Nirvana, etc. and getting back into music I had listened to when I was younger (Evanescence, Nickel Creek, etc.)
14: This is me now. I positively adore Dark Carabet (Switchblade Symphony, Rasputina, etc.), the Blues (Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, etc.), Rock (U2, They Might Be Giants, Nirvana, the Beatles, etc. etc.), Industrial (Unterart, etc.), Alternative (Oh man, way too many to list), Garage Rock (The White Stripes, Dan Auerbach, Cage the Elephant, etc.), and so many more (Celtic, Bluegrass, Country).
I'm proud of the diversity of my musical preferences and I think it shows maturity, in my "gothiness", that I can listen to and talk about music that isn't just "Goth" or "Dark" or "angsty teen nonsense", you know what I mean?
I think I'm on my way to being able to stand up and say I am no longer a Baby Bat. :)

Blessings,
Gibson
